Getting Started With Microsoft Narrator

In many areas of technology, you’ll find people who passionately argue that their particular device, app or even company is the best choice. It’s always been that way, from VHS vs Betamax, Sega vs Nintendo and of course Apple vs everybody else, there will always be die-hard fans.

It’s the same with screen readers, and while the Jaws vs NVDA battle rages on, there was at least always one thing that everyone agreed upon… Microsoft Narrator was absolutely terrible!

But notice the past tense, was. Since Windows 10, Microsoft have totally rebuilt Narrator from the ground up. With regular updates still appearing it does seem that Microsoft are finally taking Narrator seriously, to the point where it’s actually a viable, usable option.

In this quick start guide, I’ll run through the basics of the new Narrator. How to get it started, where to find help and how it works.
